Professional Foundations in LDT

The coursework I completed in the Purdue LDT Program demonstrates my capability to develop effective and engaging instructional materials. A professional in the learning design field must demonstrate mastery of communication, a robust knowledge of instructional design research and theory, the necessary knowledge, skills, and attitude, and a keen understanding of design's ethical, legal, and political implications.

My completion of three challenges evidences my ability to communicate professionally and effectively. First, I created a training course brochure to engage learners and a facilitator guide to communicate the course expectations and structure to the instructor. The next set of challenge materials showcases my ability to solicit, utilize, and provide effective feedback. These skills are critical to promoting collaboration and ensuring the accuracy of training material through the review process. Finally, I submitted an instructional video that I wrote, produced, and edited as evidence of my ability to deliver engaging presentations. These materials all work together to establish my ability to communicate clearly and effectively across various applications. Through the coursework I completed in the Purdue LDT program, I have gained significant experience establishing two-way communication with my peers, subject matter experts, and professors to improve the quality and accuracy of my work. These skills are invaluable as I continue to work in team environments to identify and solve training and performance issues.

The literature review and design document based on the Dick and Carey model for systematic instructional design serves as artifacts demonstrating my ability to apply instructional design research and theory to practical problems. I am keenly interested in instructional video best practices, which led me to perform a thorough literature review of the current research investigating the design implications of video-based learning. The second artifact I submitted is a design document for an instructor-led training course I designed using the Dick and Carey model, which emphasizes the front-end analysis, specifying desired learning outcomes, and developing strategies to measure the training material's effectiveness. I have developed the ability to search for research-based solutions for instructional design problems. This skill set will translate into my future instructional design projects by ensuring that my solutions adhere to the most current and effective theories and research.

I adhere to the principle that a continuous improvement mindset is essential for ID professionals. I completed a LinkedIn Learning course on HTML for web design to demonstrate this belief. I also submitted evidence of interaction among my ID peers. This shows my dedication to collaboration to improve my skills and help others in the community develop theirs. I presented evidence of my efforts to learn new technology to expand my skills by learning to use Microsoft Visio to create a learning goal analysis flowchart. This group of challenges works well to show my commitment to challenging myself to improve constantly. Through this continuous learning approach, I gained website and graphic design knowledge. I intend to use this knowledge in future projects to create engaging, effective, and aesthetically pleasing training materials.

To show my ability to navigate the ethical, legal, and political landscape for design, I submitted the literature review I completed in EDCI 513 that adheres to APA 7th edition citation guidelines. Additionally, I presented evidence of meeting the Purdue Plagiarism training course and the Purdue statement of program commitment, demonstrating my adherence to academic integrity and professional conduct. Completing these challenges broadened my skill set in seeking out, interpreting, and adhering to the ethical, legal, and political constraints when developing future instructional design projects. I plan to consider each of these domains carefully to ensure that my work is held to the highest standard of excellence.
